I thought this was going to be more difficult than it actually was in the end. I was struggling with how to do this and what to do it on. I was more afraid of the technology than the actual assignment. I used a lesson plan that I modified from another class and and created my script. I know this my first attempt and lighting may have been an issue, but I had rather little problems in doing this assignment.
I can see the multiple uses of such a technology. However, I am presented with an interesting conflict in that I feel podcasting is another means to potentially provide lecture materials via an online medium. I see the pros and cons in this. For some students the flexibility of viewing and reviewing podcasts provides an experience that you do not have in the classroom, unless you video tape the lecture.
Overall this experience was fun, thought provoking and made me overcome a technology-based fear. Thank you!

David, glad you found this tool has educational potential. As I mentioned to others, the learning process, esp with technology is a difficult one. And imagine that I have to learn it over and over because it keeps changing! Good first attempt at podcasting!
ReplyDeleteHi David,
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering what cons you see in using podcasts? For a college class, I can see one being the worry that if the professor tapes classes, and posts them as podcasts, students won't need to come to the class. I guess, I'd counter that, if classes are interactive, not just lecture, then students will still have be there to participant, and the podcast will merely be a backup for emergencies and repetition.
I couldn’t find your podcast on your blog. Did I miss it? If not, I think you should try uploading it. It was easy, and it helped me realize how one blog page could contain lots of different sources for students to access. The topic of your podcast is interesting. It is hard to come to accept that we are always only acting on our interpretations of reality (including people), never on any absolute truth. Discomforting. Think we could all use better communication skills to at least get closer to the other person’s perception, more information than just our own unconscious interpretations.
